Just thought I'd post an image of the place I had my lunch on my way back to Leeds. It's a place called Eyemouth in the Scottish Borders. The fish and chips they served was enormous! Yum!
I've been in Edinburgh for the past couple of days. I was presenting a poster at a conference yesterday but decided not to rush home too soon!
The weather's a little drab right now, so I've sought sanctuary at the Terrace Cafe at the Royal Botanic Garden.
I'm thinking about taking the scenic route back to Leeds. It's nice to have time to do the things you enjoy.
I have another job interview tomorrow, but this time, because of the distance, I've decided to book a hotel and stay nearer the venue overnight. I didn't quite fancy driving the 100 miles to a morning interview. I've found a hotel online last night and checked that it had good reviews before booking it. As luck would have it, I got rather lost getting here but Google Maps on my Treo 680 saved my bacon. I can't quite use it as a sat-nav, but I was able to stop, and calculate a route from where I was and where I wanted to be. In the spirit of doing everything on the Treo, I was even able to show the email for the booking to the girl at the front desk when they couldn't find my reservation. I was eventually given a room, which I'm very impressed with! I've taken a quick snap of it with the Treo and I'm now using Vox's Palm app to write this entry and post the photo at the same time. Now that's what using a Treo is all about! :)
I just thought I'd post some pictures of Sheffield (South Yorkshire, England) that I happened to take while I was there for a job interview!
The interview went relatively well, and since I don't get a chance to travel too much, I decided to stick around for a couple of hours and have a look around. I forgot to bring my Canon Powershot S70, so had to settle for my Treo 680. It was a bright day, so made taking pictures easier!
I visited a rather large shopping mall called Meadowhall and had a very nice Fish and Chips at Harry Ramsden's there! Yum!
Hooray! I'd been having inconsistent results from my Treo 680 over the past few weeks, but it seems like it's been down to a bug in the software that meant that the camera was not switching off properly. Palm has released a patch for the Treo 680.

I've had my new Treo 680 phone for several weeks now, and I really love the new form factor (read: shape and size) and the increased onboard memory (there's more than double) over my old Treo 650.
The battery life was an issue with the Treo 680 and it's taken a couple of weeks for the battery to condition and calibrate with the 680's software. I don't find it a problem now, and typically if I start the day with a fully charged battery, I end the day with a battery level at around 80%.
I'm temporarily back to using my trusty Treo 650 right now, though, until I figure out what's causing my Treo 680 to crash and spin itself into a continuous reset loop.
It did that last night, and rebooted itself, then crashed ad infinitum all night. When I got up, the battery was hovering at 7% capacity and I had to rush to work.
Luckily I was keeping my Treo 650 in a drawer, so I was able to transfer all my updated calendar appointments and to-do lists to the 650, swapped the SIM card, and I was all set.
All I need to do when I get home is figure out what's causing the resets. I had a much worse reset problem when I first got my Treo 650, so in comparison, the 680 has been a big improvement!
Technology is great and such a time-saver... when it works!
Just by chance I decided to see what Vox would like like on a mobile device like my Palm Treo 650.
They seem to have thought of everything. Instead of giving me the full page that would normally take ages to load on my GPRS connection, I was presented with a mobile-friendly mini-page titled Vox Preview! It's handy to have faster loading pages that fit the smaller screens of mobile devices, so this was ideal.
Kudos to Vox for that!

I'm still getting used to the features of Vox. Things I like are things like the ability of send posts and pictures via email, which is the best way to make an entry whilst on the move. I love using my Treo 650 when I'm away from my laptop, and together with my 2Gb Data plan with T-Mobile UK, it's been great! There's also integration with Flickr and Photobucket, so I don't need to keep re-uploading the same pictures. I love it when they make things easy like that.
What I don't like, is possibly the fact that you need to be a member of Vox to write a comment. I think this can be a shortcoming, although it does cut down on spam comments.
Anyway, that's all for now.
